A summary to help you read. The sections below are the full text.
Stocks where you already look
#Perchy shows the stocks, ETFs and indexes you follow in your Mac’s notch, the dead space at the top of the screen. Hover and it opens on one of them: the price, the day’s change, and a chart you can scrub. Flick along the row for the next one. Close the notch and a price can stay beside the camera.
Stocks are part of Markets, next to your coins. How Markets works.
Search by name or ticker
#Type a company, a fund or a ticker. “Apple” finds AAPL, “SPY” finds the S&P 500 ETF, and “tencent” finds 0700.HK, Tencent in Hong Kong. Results show the exchange and whether each is a stock, an ETF, an index or a fund. The same search finds coins, so one box adds both.
Exchanges and market hours
#Perchy covers what Yahoo Finance lists, and knows the hours of these markets, lunch breaks included:
- United States: NASDAQ, NYSE, NYSE American, NYSE Arca, Cboe, major US indexes
- Americas: Toronto, São Paulo
- Europe: London, Xetra and Frankfurt, Euronext (Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Lisbon), Milan, Madrid, Swiss Exchange, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo, Istanbul
- Asia and Pacific: Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, India (NSE, BSE), Australia (ASX)
Prices update during each market’s regular session. After the close, Perchy fetches the closing price once and keeps it until the next session. Holidays follow the session the market data announces.
Delays and labels
#Each stock’s price says where it stands:
- Delayed: the market is open, and its exchange reaches Perchy late. That is most exchanges outside the US, by about 15 minutes.
- Closed: the market is closed; the price is its last close.
- Lunch break: the midday pause in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Singapore.
- As of 14:02: Perchy could not update the price, so it shows the last one and when it was from.
Price alerts
#Tap the bell on a stock to set an alert in its own currency that fires once or every time the price crosses your level, after a second reading confirms the cross. It shows in the notch, and as a Mac notification if you allow them. Free keeps 1 stock alert on; Pro up to 20, apart from the coins’ alerts.
Free and Pro
#Free follows 2 stocks with a 1-day chart, updated every 5 minutes. Pro follows up to 30, updated every minute (or every 2 minutes), with charts from a day to the whole history. Stocks count apart from coins.

Where the prices come from
#Your Mac asks Yahoo Finance for the symbols you follow, with no account, cookie or identifier; Yahoo sees the symbols and your IP address. When Yahoo can’t be reached, Perchy’s own price service answers instead, one symbol at a time and never knowing who asked. Company logos come from Perchy’s price service too.
Perchy never asks for a brokerage login, an API key or a payment. The Privacy Policy lists every source.
Questions
#Are stock prices real time?
No. Perchy updates stock prices every 5 minutes on Free and every minute on Pro while their market is open. Most exchanges outside the US reach Perchy about 15 minutes late, and those prices say Delayed.
Does Perchy show pre-market or after-hours prices?
No. Outside the regular session Perchy shows the last close and says Closed.
Which currency are prices in?
Each stock keeps its own: Apple in US dollars, Tencent in Hong Kong dollars, SAP on Xetra in euros. Alerts are set in the same currency.
Can I keep stocks apart from my coins?
Yes. By default coins and stocks share the Markets section. Settings › Finance › Separate crypto and stocks gives Stocks a section of its own, with its own switch.
Can Perchy trade or connect to my broker?
No. Perchy reads public market data. It has no trading, no portfolio and no brokerage login.
Does it work offline?
The last prices and charts of the stocks you follow are kept on your Mac, so they show offline, marked with the time they are from. New prices wait for a connection.
